The Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Pneumonia (GAPP) arose out of an international conference in Alice Springs in 2006 and has been further developed by UNICEF and WHO. As part of the GAPP initiative, experts from Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Australia met in Sydney on July 28 and 29, 2009 to decide how best to deal with continuing high mortality in children from pneumonia.
